Interflex has teamed up with the Alliance for a Healthier Generation to identify healthier products and create more nutrition-focused bid specifications. The Alliance’s nutrition guidelines provide schools a science-based criteria for selecting food and beverages sold as part of reimbursable school meals and competitive foods, including a la carte and vending. The BidAdvantage system makes it easy to find healthier products. Or, create a healthier bid spec by using the Alliance template.

The Alliance for a Healthier Generation, founded by the American Heart Association and the William J. Clinton Foundation, takes a comprehensive approach to helping schools create healthier environments by working with them to improve access to healthier foods and increase physical activity opportunities before, during and after school. Any school or individual can sign up for the Healthy Schools Program at no cost at www.healthiergeneration.org. Benefits of participating in the program include:
  • Access to the Healthy Schools Program resource database that includes practical information, grant opportunities and discounts on tools to assist in implementing healthy changes in schools.

  • Extensive support including turnkey toolkits, free online presentations and phone conferences on topics like school meals, health education, physical activity, employee wellness and more

  • Networking opportunities with others across the country working towards the same goal.

  • Promotional tools for schools to publicize their efforts toward creating and sustaining healthier environments for students and staff.
